Daijiworld Media Network - Dakar

Dakar, Nov 5: Indian badminton player Tanvi Patri has created history by becoming the first Indian to reach the women's singles final at the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar.

Tanvi secured her place in the title clash after defeating Japan's Yuzuno Watanabe 21-14, 11-21, 21-19 in a closely fought 54-minute semifinal.

The young Indian had earlier become the first Indian woman to reach the badminton semifinals at the Youth Olympic Games after overcoming Thailand's Kungkaew Kakanik.

With this achievement, Tanvi has become the fourth Indian shuttler to reach the badminton semifinals at the Youth Olympic Games, joining H S Prannoy, Lakshya Sen and Aditya Joshi.

Tanvi will now take on China's Yi Xin Zhang in the final on Thursday, as she looks to create another milestone for Indian badminton by winning the gold medal.
