Auckland, Nov 4: Indian batting star Virat Kohli created history on Wednesday by becoming the first cricketer in the world to score 13,000 runs while batting at No. 3 in One Day Internationals.
Kohli achieved the milestone during the first ODI against New Zealand at Eden Park in Auckland. He needed 12 runs to reach the landmark and completed it with the 12th run of his innings in the seventh over of India's chase of 186.

Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting is second on the list, having scored 12,662 runs in 330 innings at the No. 3 position.
Kohli, already the second-highest run-scorer in ODI history, also has an opportunity to surpass Ponting's record for the most ODI runs against New Zealand. He had scored 1,909 runs in 37 innings against the Black Caps before the match and needs 63 more to go past Ponting's tally of 1,971.
Kohli is also closing in on another milestone. He needs 47 runs in the match to become only the fourth Indian batter to score 1,000 international runs in New Zealand. Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Mohammad Azharuddin are the other Indians to have achieved the feat.
Since making his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in Dambulla on August 18, 2008, Kohli has scored 8,679 runs in 169 innings while batting second in ODI matches.
He needs 42 more runs to surpass Tendulkar's record of 8,720 runs in ODI run chases. Tendulkar scored the runs in 232 second-innings appearances across his 463-match ODI career.
