Chinese Taipei shuttler Chou wins French Open

Paris, Oct 27 (IANS): Chinese Taipei shuttler Chou Tien Chen stunned China's Wang Zhengming 10-21, 25-23, 21-19 to clinch the French Open Super Series men's singles title while Olympic champion Li Xuerui retired to hand the women's singles title to teammate Shixian Wang at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin here.

The World No.13 Chou got off to a poor start Sunday to lose the first game 10-21 but turned the tables on the World No.7 to win the second and third game 25-23, 21-19, reports Xinhua.

"It's crazy. I'd never thought that I could go this far," Chou said in the post-match interview.

"My patience and the awareness of myself having nothing to lose awarded me the victory," the 24-year-old added.

In the women's final, defending champion Shixian led 21-15, 8-3 when world No.1 Xuerui retired citing an injury.

Wang Xiaoli and her doubles partner Yu Yang won another all-Chinese affair 21-15, 21-9 over Ma Jin and Tang Yuanting.

While the men's doubles title went to the Danish pair of Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen.

The Indonesian combination of Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir won the mixed doubles final.
