Puttur, Oct 19: Passengers waiting for buses here had a narrow escape on Saturday night when a compound wall of the BSNL office near the bus stand collapsed onto the adjoining passenger shelter. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. To prevent any potential danger, BSNL officials carried out an operation on Sunday to remove the leaning section of the wall using an excavator.
The compound wall, measuring more than eight feet in height, was built to protect the premises housing the BSNL office and its telecommunications tower. However, heavy rain over the past two days weakened the foundation, causing the wall to collapse onto the nearby structure where passengers wait for buses.

While a portion of the compound wall completely collapsed, another section remained standing but leaned over the passenger shelter, supported by the pillar of an advertising board.
Following newspaper reports highlighting the danger posed by the weakened bases of the pillars supporting the passenger shelter, which could collapse at any time, Panchayat Development Officer Ravichandra visited the spot and inspected the situation.
