Rashmika calls Vijay a ‘one-man show’ in Ranabaali

Hyderabad, Oct 18: Actress Rashmika Mandanna has praised Vijay Deverakonda’s performance in Ranabaali, saying his transformation into the titular character reminded her of Allu Arjun’s portrayal of Pushpa in Pushpa 2: The Rule.

Speaking at a press conference in Hyderabad on Friday evening, the film’s team discussed the period drama, which was released in theatres on October 16. Rashmika said Vijay’s portrayal of Ranabaali created a striking difference between the actor she knew personally and the character he played on screen.

Rashmika also spoke about how she now views success following her wedding to Vijay in Udaipur in February. According to Hindustan Times, she said they no longer considered their achievements separately, describing them as sharing the same happiness, pain, joy and experiences.

She expressed hope that Ranabaali would become a major commercial success, adding that she would be equally happy about the success of all their future films.

Recalling Vijay’s performance, Rashmika said she initially found it difficult to reconcile his on-screen character with the person she knew off camera. Even when she spoke to him between shots, she could still sense the presence of Ranabaali.

She said certain characters could completely consume an actor, with every emotion becoming part of the performance. Watching Vijay undergo this transformation was a new experience for her, she added.

Rashmika compared the experience to watching Allu Arjun transform into Pushpa in Pushpa 2: The Rule, noting that his real-life personality and on-screen character appeared to be two different people.

The actress, who previously worked with Vijay in Geetha Govindam and Dear Comrade, said his performance in Ranabaali affected her differently. Praising his contribution to the film, she described him as a “one-man show”.

Meanwhile, Ranabaali recorded a decline in domestic box-office collections on its second day. According to Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 7.30 crore in India net collections on Saturday, October 17, down 21.1 per cent from its opening-day collection of Rs 9.25 crore.

The film’s cumulative India net collection reached Rs 16.55 crore, while its domestic gross stood at Rs 19.25 crore.

Overseas markets contributed Rs 2 crore in gross collections on Saturday, taking the total overseas gross to Rs 7.40 crore. The film’s worldwide gross collection reached Rs 26.65 crore after two days.

The film was screened across 2,292 shows on Saturday, compared with 2,515 shows on its opening day.
