Beltangady, Jul 30: The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) has confirmed the identities of three out of the seven skeletons recovered by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) during a search operation at Banglegudde in Dharmasthala village, through DNA testing.

Following clues provided by Sowjanya's uncle Vithal Gowda, SIT officials conducted a search operation at Banglegudde near the Netravati bathing ghat in Dharmasthala on September 17 and 18, 2025. During the operation, seven skeletons and a few ID cards were unearthed. Based on the ID cards, authorities traced the suspected families and collected their DNA samples at the Beltangady court before sending them to the FSL.

The latest report has now confirmed that the DNA of three families matches the skeletal remains.

The deceased have been identified as U B Aiyappa (70) from T Shettigeri village in Virajpet taluk of Kodagu district, Adishesha Narayana (27) from Dasarakallahalli in Gubbi taluk of Tumakuru district, and Krishnappa (85) from Meesaganahalli in Srinivaspur taluk of Kolar district.

According to the details available, Aiyappa had gone to a hospital in Mysuru for treatment on June 25, 2017, and never returned. His family had subsequently registered a missing person case at the Srimangala police station in Kutta circle.

Adishesha Narayana, who worked at a bar in Bengaluru, returned home on October 2, 2013, left his mobile phone behind, and disappeared. Since he had a habit of leaving home frequently, his family assumed he would return and reportedly did not file a missing complaint.

Meanwhile, 85-year-old Krishnappa, who usually stayed indoors due to his age, suddenly walked out of his house on October 22, 2024, and went missing. His family had filed a missing complaint at the Srinivaspur police station.

As per the procedures following the DNA confirmation, the families can now claim the skeletal remains by submitting a request to the SIT. The SIT officials submitted their final report, confirming the identities of the three individuals through DNA evidence, to the Beltangady court on July 15.
