Puttur, Apr 18: A motorcyclist lost his life in a horrific road accident on Friday afternoon at Padil on the outskirts of Puttur, after his two-wheeler rammed into a divider-mounted light pole. Another motorcycle was also drawn into the incident, leaving its rider and a child with minor injuries.

The deceased has been identified as a resident of Kodineeru near Bellippadi village.

Preliminary reports indicate that the accident occurred when a motorcycle travelling from Puttur towards Darandakkukke lost control near the Padil junction and crashed violently into a light pole fixed on the road divider.

At the same time, another motorcycle approaching from the opposite direction on the other side of the divider was also involved in the aftermath of the collision. That bike too met with an accident, with its rider and a child sustaining minor injuries, officials said.

Meanwhile, two versions of the incident have emerged. One suggests that the Puttur-bound rider lost control and directly hit the divider pole. Another claims that a motorcycle coming from the Uppinangady side was allegedly riding on the wrong side of the road, forcing the rider to swerve in an attempt to avoid it, resulting in the fatal crash.

Visibility at the scene was reportedly affected as thick dust rose immediately after the impact, leaving witnesses unclear about the exact sequence of events.

Puttur Traffic police sub-inspector Suhas and personnel rushed to the spot soon after the incident and conducted an inspection. CCTV footage from nearby establishments was also reviewed; however, officials stated that it did not provide a clear account of the accident.

Further investigation is under way to determine the precise cause of the fatal crash.
