Bantwal, March 18: In a startling early-morning encounter, a seven-foot crocodile wandered into the courtyard of a house along the banks of the Nethravathi River, sending shockwaves through the neighbourhood.

The reptile entered the residence of Rajesh Naik in Poopadikatte, Nekkilaru, located approximately 200 metres from the river. The crocodile was first noticed around 3 am, after the family was alerted by unusual noises outside.

“We heard a noise and stepped out to check, only to find a crocodile in the courtyard,” Rajesh Naik recounted.

He added that the reptile later moved towards the garden in front of the house before disappearing from sight.

Despite the potentially dangerous encounter, the forest department has not yet been notified, he confirmed.

The incident has sparked concern among local residents, highlighting the risks faced by households located close to riverbanks, where wild animals occasionally stray into human habitation.

Authorities have urged residents in the area to remain vigilant, particularly during the night and early morning hours, as crocodiles and other wildlife are known to move closer to human settlements along the Nethravathi River.
