Udupi, Feb 17: The IEEE Student Branch Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM), Bantakal, successfully organized 'TECH-LEAD 2026: Professional Skills for the Next-Gen Engineers', an IEEE SPAx and IEEE Foundation funded professional event, at the institute premises on Feb 14.
The programme aimed to equip students with essential professional competencies required to excel in today’s competitive engineering and corporate landscape. The workshop focused on communication skills, leadership qualities, workplace readiness, interview strategies, and overall personality development.


The event was inaugurated by Dr Glenson Toney, assistant professor (grade-2), department of electronics and communication engineering, St Aloysius Deemed to be University, Mangaluru, emphasized that technical knowledge alone is no longer sufficient for success in the modern professional world. He highlighted that employers today look for engineers who are not only technically sound but also possess strong communication skills, leadership qualities, emotional intelligence, adaptability, and ethical responsibility.
Dr Toney stressed the importance of continuous learning and self-upgradation, encouraging students to develop a habit of reading, networking, and participating in professional platforms such as IEEE. He pointed out that the transition from campus to corporate life requires confidence, clarity of thought, teamwork, and the ability to present ideas effectively.
Dr Nagaraj Bhat, principal, delivered the presidential remarks, emphasizing the significance of professional skills alongside technical knowledge and encouraging students to actively participate in such skill-enhancement initiatives. He also highlighted the role of IEEE in fostering holistic student development through professional and technical events.
The program was coordinated by Dr Nagaraja Rao, IEEE student branch counselor. Abhishek Kini, invoked the blessings from the almighty. Anjali Shetty warmly welcomed the gathering, followed by a brief introduction of the chief guest by Prerana Shetty. The event proceedings were effectively compeered by Shravya Thantry, ensuring smooth flow of the programme. The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Anwitha Rao.
TECH-LEAD 2026 proved to be a highly impactful initiative, empowering students with practical knowledge and confidence to meet professional challenges and emerge as competent, industry-ready engineers. More than 120 students have participated in this workshop.
