Panaji, Oct 25: Emphasising the importance of preserving Goa’s cultural legacy, Art and Culture Minister Ramesh Tawadkar on Friday assured full support to the Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG) to take tiatr to greater heights.
Speaking at a programme organised by TAG to commemorate the birth anniversary of the Father of Khell-Tiatr, late Rosario Rodrigues, Tawadkar lauded the academy for launching the first-ever research journal on tiatr, calling it a milestone for Goan theatre.

The Minister stressed the need to document tiatr’s rich history for future generations. “Tiatr is not merely entertainment; it conveys strong social messages that inspire change. The message delivered from the tiatr stage has a profound impact on society,” he said.
Highlighting the importance of culture in development, Tawadkar said, “No State or society can progress without culture. After taking charge of the Art and Culture Department, I have met experts to make it more public-oriented. I have also sought a report to review and update various departmental schemes to meet current needs.”
He urged TAG President Anthony Barbosa and Vice-President Marcus Gonsalves to submit a proposal to strengthen and promote tiatr further, assuring all necessary support from the government.
On the occasion, ‘Tiatr Machi’, a research journal dedicated to academic and cultural studies on tiatr, was launched along with the Report of Activities 2024–25 and four new tiatr books.
TAG honoured Maria Cleffy Antonieta Gomes (Cleffy) and Maxcy J Pereira for their outstanding contributions to Khell-Tiatr (non-stop drama). Prizes were also distributed to the winners of the 5th All Goa Inter-Collegiate and Higher Secondary School Tiatr Competition 2025–26, aimed at nurturing young talent and encouraging youth participation in Goa’s vibrant cultural theatre.
