Mangaluru, Aug 21: A decomposed body found near Kotekar has raised suspicion of murder after injury marks were found on the abdomen and head, indicating that the person may have been stabbed and struck with a sharp weapon. A case of suspicious death has been registered at the Ullal police station.
Narayan (32), a native of Kundapur, had reportedly fallen into the sea after being caught in high waves while travelling on the Ocean Star fishing boat belonging to a resident of Ullal on August 9. His relatives and the boat owner searched for him for a week, and a missing person complaint was registered at the Pandeshwar police station.

On August 17, a decomposed body was found behind the Kotekar mosque. Suspecting that the body could be that of Narayan, his brothers came to the spot, but it was not possible to identify him. Later, during the inquest at Wenlock Hospital in the city, his brother Krishnappa stated that the body was that of Narayan.
DNA samples have been collected from his brother Krishnappa, while a sample from the deceased's body has also been obtained. The identity of the deceased will be confirmed after the report is received in two days.
Meanwhile, the Ocean Star has already ventured into deep-sea fishing and is currently fishing near Ratnagiri. A message has been sent to the boat, and it is expected to reach Mangaluru in another two days. After the boat arrives, police will question those who were on board and gather information as part of the investigation.
