Mangaluru, Aug 21: A 64-year-old man has been sentenced to five years of simple imprisonment and fined Rs 35,000 after being found guilty in a POCSO case registered at the Bellare police station.

The case was registered under Bellare police station Crime No. 12/2020 under Sections 354(A1) and 506 of the IPC and Section 8 of the POCSO Act, 2012. The trial was conducted before the 7th additional district and sessions court, Mangaluru.

The accused, identified as Abdullah (64), a resident of Kudmaru in Kadaba, was found guilty after the charges against him were proved. Judge Sumangala C Chaklabbi pronounced the verdict and sentenced him to five years of simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 35,000. In case of failure to pay the fine, he will have to undergo an additional six months of simple imprisonment.

Naveen Chandra Jogi, who was the investigating officer in the case and then Sullia circle inspector, collected the necessary evidence and submitted the chargesheet before the court.

Special public prosecutor Pushparaj effectively presented the case on behalf of the prosecution.
