Panaji, Oct 2: The Goa government has directed the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) to submit a detailed procedure it follows for implementing the 100-point roster for the allotment and reservation of postgraduate (PG) seats for Scheduled Tribes (ST), Scheduled Castes (SC), Other Backward Classes (OBC) and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) candidates.
In a letter to the GMC Dean, Under Secretary for Public Health, Sitaram Sawal, also sought a draft of the amendment to the “Goa Rules for Admission to Postgraduate Degree and Diploma Course of the Goa University at the GMC, 2024”, in line with the Chief Minister’s decision.
“I request you to furnish the procedure for implementation of the 100-point roster as regards allotment and reservation of PG seats for SC/ST/OBC and EWS in GMC,” Sawal wrote.
As per state policy, 41% of PG seats at GMC are reserved for the backward classes: 12% for ST, 27% for OBC, and 2% for SC, in addition to 10% seats reserved for the EWS category.
The directive comes in the wake of the expansion of PG seats at GMC, which was approved from the 2024-25 academic year, increasing the number of seats from 31 to 50, a rise of 19 seats.
The increase spans five key specialties:
• MS in Obstetrics & Gynaecology: 6 → 8 seats
• MD in Radiodiagnosis: 6 → 7 seats
• MD in Paediatrics: 7 → 10 seats
• MS in General Surgery: 6 → 15 seats
• MD in Pharmacology: 6 → 10 seats
The government’s move is aimed at ensuring transparent and equitable implementation of the reservation policy in postgraduate medical education across the state.
