Mangaluru, Sep 10: The management of Lourdes Central School had hosted 'Move well, teach well: A physiotherapy perspective on teachers' health', an event aimed to highlight the importance of physical well-being in enhancing teaching effectiveness and overall quality of life on September 9, as a part of World Physiotherapy Day which is celebrated on September 8 every year.
Dr Cyanna Joseph D'Souza, assistant professor and consultant physiotherapist at Father Muller College of Physiotherapy, was the resource person for the event. She was ably assisted by Dr Ajay Kumar Sainuguntla and Dr Mohammad Karim Ruman.

Dr D'Souza delivered an insightful session on the often-overlooked importance of physical therapy in enhancing overall well-being, particularly among teachers. The session began with an interactive poll using Slido, followed by a discussion on current facts and statistics related to musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). Teachers shared common causes of MSDs within the teaching profession, which were further elaborated upon by the speaker through engaging PowerPoint presentations, real-life examples, and live demonstrations.
The session then transitioned into practical ergonomic strategies and preventive measures tailored for educators. Key topics included classroom ergonomics, correct sitting and standing postures, appropriate use of technology and teaching tools, suitable footwear and the importance of regular movement and lifestyle modifications.
Dr D'Souza also provided valuable guidance on recognizing early signs of MSDs and the physiotherapeutic interventions available for timely treatment. The session concluded with a set of simple yet effective exercises targeting the neck, shoulders, and knees—designed to improve physical stability and promote long-term musculoskeletal health among teachers.
Sonia Crasta compered the event systematically. Mable D’Souza delivered the welcome address, setting the tone for the event. Sr Regeena expressed gratitude to the resource person and her team for their valuable support.
The 'Move well, teach well' event highlighted the critical role of physical well-being in the teaching profession, with the key takeaway summarized as IDENTIFY – ACT – PREVENT. By placing greater emphasis on their physical health, teachers can not only reduce stress and prevent injury but also enhance their teaching effectiveness and overall quality of life.
