Mangaluru: Mount Carmel cadets celebrate NCC Day with national pride

Mangaluru, Mar 13: Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru celebrated NCC Day 2026 on March 11 with great pride and patriotic fervour in the school auditorium. The programme, centred on the theme “National Pride”, reflected the core values of unity, discipline, and selfless service upheld by the National Cadet Corps (NCC).

The celebration commenced with a warm introduction by the comperes Kristen Aloysius Albuquerque, Jassica Simran D’Souza and Prisha Rihana Menezes, setting the tone for the occasion. This was followed by a soulful prayer that created a serene and reflective atmosphere. A graceful welcome dance added colour and elegance, marking the beginning of the cultural segment. The welcome address was delivered by CPL Aaston Lobo and Sgt Dharmik Krishna A, extending a gracious welcome to the chief guest Lt Col Rohit Prakash Rai and the audience.

The students then highlighted the significance of NCC Day, emphasizing the role of the organization in shaping disciplined, responsible, and patriotic youth. One of the highlights of the programme was the energetic Junior Drill Dance, where the cadets displayed excellent coordination, confidence, and discipline, earning warm appreciation from the audience.

The stage programme continued with the felicitation of cadet Sgt Major Ancel D’Costa for his outstanding achievement. He was honoured for representing the Karnataka and Goa Directorate at the prestigious Republic Day Camp 2026 in New Delhi and was also recognised for his promotion from Sergeant to Cadet Sergeant Major, marking a proud milestone in his NCC journey. It also included the felicitation of associate NCC officer of the school, Teena, who was promoted to the rank of second level officer in NCC. She was honoured by the chief guest, Lt Col Rohit Prakash Rai, and vice principal Sr Teena in recognition of her dedication and leadership in guiding the NCC cadets.

The celebration continued with the distribution of prizes for various individual competitions and team games conducted for the cadets, promoting excellence, teamwork, and sportsmanship. In his address, chief guest Lt Col Rohit Prakash Rai congratulated the cadets for their commendable performances and appreciated their efforts under the guidance of ANO Teena. He encouraged students to remain disciplined and focused, urged them to boycott plastic, and reminded them of their responsibility to love and serve the nation with dedication.

Vice principal Sr Teena, in her address, appreciated the NCC cadets and their mentors for presenting a meaningful and inspiring programme. She also encouraged students to take up NCC training and serve the nation with dedication and pride. Adding an emotional touch to the celebration, the cadets presented a dance drama portraying the sacrifices of soldiers and their families, paying a heartfelt tribute to the brave martyrs who laid down their lives for the nation. The annual report of NCC for the academic year 2025–2026 was then presented by the cadets, highlighting the various camps, training programmes and activities conducted throughout the year.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by LCPL Clair, who expressed sincere gratitude to the dignitaries, teachers, and participants for their support and cooperation. The celebration came to an end with the NCC Song, reminding everyone of the spirit of unity in diversity and the NCC motto, “Unity and Discipline”. The entire event stood as a proud and meaningful celebration of patriotism, discipline, and the vital role of NCC in shaping responsible and dedicated youth for the nation.
