Man rescued from drowning during Ganesh immersion at Mapusa Tar

Panaji, Sep 1: A 38-year-old man from Hubli was saved from drowning during Ganesh idol immersion at Mapusa tar last night. The incident took place around 9:30 pm when the man entered the pond to retrieve a stool that had drifted away during the ritual.

Caught in a strong current, he panicked and called for help. On-duty Drishti Marine lifesaver Rakesh Kumar quickly responded and pulled him safely to shore. The man was unharmed and did not require medical treatment.

Drishti Marine has deployed trained lifesavers at 47 visarjan sites across Goa, including 35 beaches and 12 inland locations, to assist state authorities in maintaining safety. These teams will remain active at immersion points on September 2, 4, 6, and 17, the 21st day visarjan.
