Man goes missing in Kochi after abandoning child and 26 dogs

Kochi, Aug 28: Authorities in Tripunithura rescued a class 4 boy and 26 hybrid dogs after their caretaker, Sudheesh S Kumar, went missing from his rented house near Thayyattu Devi Temple. The incident came to light on Monday after the desperate child contacted his mother, who is working in Germany.

Sudheesh, who had been breeding and selling the dogs, disappeared last Sunday, leaving both his young son and the animals unattended. The incident came to light only after boy contacted his mother, who alerted the police. He was later reunited with relatives, while efforts to trace Sudheesh are still underway.

The starving dogs—valued between Rs 30,000 and Rs 50,000 each—were left without food or water, creating distress in the locality due to their incessant barking. SPCA district secretary T K Sajeeb rushed to provide temporary relief before police, with municipal support, shifted the animals to a shelter in Kochi’s Kandakkadav on Wednesday.

There could be a genuine reason and simply assuming would not solve the issue.
