Mangaluru, Aug 26: With Ganesh Chaturthi festivities beginning on August 26, elaborate celebrations including bhajans, orchestras, cultural and religious programmes will be held across the district until the immersion of idols.

After installation ceremonies, idols will be taken out in grand processions featuring tableaux, traditional drums, and cultural performances before being immersed in wells, ponds, and rivers. Thousands of devotees are expected to participate in these events.

Considering that Dakshina Kannada is a communally sensitive district, authorities have taken precautionary measures to prevent any untoward incidents during the celebrations. To maintain law and order, deputy commissioner Darshan H V. has ordered the closure of all liquor outlets, including bars, wine shops, and retail liquor stores, within the jurisdiction of Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate and Dakshina Kannada District Police on designated days.

The order aims to ensure peaceful conduct of the installation and immersion processions and prevent disturbances that may arise from alcohol consumption.
