Mangaluru, Aug 9: In a sweeping anti-narcotics operation under the ongoing ‘drug-free Mangaluru’ campaign, the Mangaluru city police commissionerate arrested six individuals on August 8 across various parts of the city and seized over 5 kilograms of ganja in a crackdown on illicit drug sales targeting college students, youth, and the general public.
Police teams conducted simultaneous raids across five police station limits, acting on specific intelligence regarding individuals peddling ganja in and around educational and residential areas.

Ganja peddler nabbed in Kudroli
In the first operation, police arrested Abdul Samad alias Chammu, who had allegedly been covertly supplying ganja in the Kudroli–Khandatpalli area for several days. The suspect was reportedly targeting college students and young adults. “Samad had been secretly selling narcotics in residential pockets. Based on local tips, we tracked and apprehended him,” an officer said.
A total of 1 kilo and 40 grams of ganja was recovered.
A case has been filed at the Mangaluru North police station, and the accused has been remanded to judicial custody.
College-focused peddling busted in Mulki
In Kolnadu–Angappayyanakadu, under Mulki police station, police arrested Dharmalinga, a resident of Angappayya Kadu, who was found selling ganja to college students, labourers, and youth.
Authorities seized 1 kilo and 90 grams of ganja from his possession. A case has been registered and investigations are continuing.
Bajpe: Bihar duo held for inter-state drug peddling
Two men from Bihar, identified as Daulat Kumar Sharma and Mohammad Khushalam, were caught in Maravoor under the Bajpe police station jurisdiction for transporting and selling ganja and bhang to local youth. “They were part of an inter-state supply chain and were selling drugs to local residents,” police confirmed.
Seized from the duo were 1 kilo and 189 grams of ganja and 219 grams of bhang. Both were taken into custody and a case has been registered.
Padil arrests: Ganja seized from two youths
In Kankanady police station limits near Padil, police intercepted two young men, Karthik and Mohit, while they were attempting to sell ganja. Officers recovered 800 grams of the substance. The suspects have been arrested and remanded.
Kerala engineering student caught in Mangaluru East
In a notable arrest, Pranav K V, an engineering student from Malappuram, Kerala, was taken into custody by Mangaluru east police. The student, studying in the city, had allegedly been supplying ganja to students and locals. “He had been discreetly dealing ganja for several weeks. We seized a significant quantity from him,” police said.
From his possession, police seized 1 kilo and 100 grams of ganja. He has been remanded to judicial custody and a case has been filed.
Wider network under scanner
"Officials confirmed that initial questioning has revealed information about broader supply links, including individuals who purchased ganja from the arrested suspects. Several names have surfaced during investigation. Teams have been formed in all police station limits to trace and arrest these individuals,” stated police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy.
