Beltangady, Aug 9: A young Tulu playwright, who had been suffering from suspected dengue fever, passed away on Friday after treatment failed to improve his condition.
The deceased has been identified as Narayana Koila (35), a resident of Kudmani in Koila village, Bantwal taluk, and son of the late Bomnale. Unmarried, he is survived by two sisters. He had been admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru a few days ago after developing fever. A mason by profession, Narayana was the sole breadwinner of his family.

A prolific writer, Narayana had authored over 12 Tulu plays, including the award-winning Panda Kenujer, which has been staged over a hundred times. He also composed numerous devotional and folk songs in Tulu and Kannada for various daivas and temples, many of which were recorded.
