New Delhi, Jul 17: The Ministry of Heavy Industries has kickstarted work on the Automotive Mission Plan 2047 (AMP 2047), a long-term strategic blueprint designed to position India as a global leader in the automotive sector by the country’s centenary of independence.
The plan is closely aligned with the government’s ‘Viksit Bharat @2047’ vision and builds upon the successes of previous mission plans that fueled robust growth through industry-government collaboration, the ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
Inaugurating the first meeting of AMP 2047 Sub-Committees in New Delhi, Additional Secretary Hanif Qureshi emphasized that the 2047 vision is not merely aspirational, but a concrete, goal-oriented strategy to boost exports, sectoral growth, and innovation. “We must think beyond technology silos and corporate interests—India’s global footprint in the auto industry is the true goal,” he said.
The meeting saw participation from key ministries—including Power, Road Transport, Commerce, Environment, and Petroleum—along with prominent industry bodies like SIAM, ACMA, CII, and FICCI, academic experts, and think tanks.
The AMP 2047 initiative seeks to tackle major challenges such as technological disruption, infrastructure gaps, and global competitiveness. It aims to unify stakeholders—from OEMs and component makers to policymakers and end-users—into a common framework that drives sustainable innovation.
Seven expert-led Sub-Committees have been formed to focus on milestone-based goals for 2030, 2037, and 2047. Their recommendations will feed into a final plan to be reviewed by an Apex Committee chaired by Secretary Kamran Rizvi.
Guided by Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy, the ministry reaffirmed its commitment to a self-reliant and future-ready automotive ecosystem that delivers on both economic growth and environmental sustainability.
