Kasargod: 8-year-old girl drowns in water-filled pit while playing with friends

Kasargod, June 16: In a tragic turn of events, an eight-year-old girl drowned after falling into a water-filled pit while playing with her classmates on Monday evening at Onibagilu near Badoor in Kasaragod district.

The victim has been identified as Fatima Hiba, daughter of Vinnu Muhammad and Khadeejath Kubra. The incident occurred around 5 pm when Fatima, a third-grade student of Badoor Padu A L P School, was playing outside with other children.

According to eyewitnesses, Fatima accidentally slipped into a pit filled with rainwater. Hearing the children’s screams, family members and local residents rushed to the spot and managed to pull her out. She was immediately taken to a hospital in Kumble, but doctors declared her brought dead.

Her body has been shifted to the mortuary at Kasaragod General Hospital. A post-mortem will be conducted before it is handed over to the family.

The residents are mourning the untimely death of the young girl.
