Karkala, Jun 12: A tragic road accident occurred near Adve Ganapathi Temple on the Karkala–Padubidri State Highway on Thursday June 12, resulting in one fatality and injuries to four others following a collision between a private bus and an auto-rickshaw.
The private bus was travelling from Karkala towards Mangaluru when an auto-rickshaw, emerging suddenly from a side road, crossed its path. The bus collided with the rickshaw and veered off before coming to a stop by the roadside. A major disaster was narrowly averted as the bus just missed falling into a nearby trench.
The auto-rickshaw was carrying labourers from North India. One person died on the spot, while three others sustained serious injuries. They were initially taken to Karkala Government Hospital and later shifted to Mangaluru for further treatment.
Padubidri police visited the scene and are investigating the case.
