Film producers rush for ‘Operation Sindoor’ title amid surge of patriotism

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, May 10: In the aftermath of a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 tourists, including 24 Hindus, India launched a strong counteroffensive under the codename Operation Sindoor, targeting key terrorist bases. Pakistan retaliated with a drone strike, which was successfully thwarted by the Indian Army. In response, India launched drone and missile attacks that reportedly hit several major cities in Pakistan.

As Operation Sindoor continues to strike an emotional chord with Indians, the Indian film industry is racing to capitalize on the name. Top production houses and filmmakers are now competing to register the title ‘Operation Sindoor’ for future movie projects.

Prominent names like Mahaveer Jain Company, T-Series, Zee Studios, and directors Madhur Bhandarkar and Ashoke Pandit have applied for rights to the title. Within just two days, more than 30 title applications were submitted — including entries from 15 well-known film production companies.

Film industry bodies such as the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA), the Indian Film and Television Producers Council (IFTPC), and the Western India Film Producers’ Association (WIFPA) have seen a sharp rise in applications related to "Operation Sindoor" and similar themes. Together, these bodies have received more than 30 title applications via email referencing the military operation.

Given the pace of submissions, the number could rise to 50–60 in the coming days. “This is not new. Most applications are for titles like Operation Sindoor and Mission Sindoor,” said Anil Nagrath, secretary of IMPPA. He added that while anyone can apply for multiple titles, registration is granted on a first-come, first-served basis.

“Producers usually pick themes that are current and emotionally powerful. Operation Sindoor is a matter of national pride, and many filmmakers are eager to bring this story to the big screen,” Nagrath said.

Such rushes for titles have occurred in the past as well — during events like Kargil, Uri, and Kumbh, similar title frenzies were witnessed. Applications have also been filed for related names such as Hindustan Ka Sindoor, Mission Operation Sindoor, Sindoor Ka Badla, Pahalgam: The Terror Attack, and Pahalgam Attack.

The competition has reached Sandalwood too. Senior Kannada film producer Sa Ra Govindu has applied for the title ‘Operation Sindoor’ and successfully registered it with the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce.
