Kolkata, May 8: BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul on Thursday lashed out at Congress leader Udit Raj, calling him "foolish and ignorant" after Raj questioned the name of India's recent military operation, 'Operation Sindoor'.
Raj had raised concerns over the name of the operation, suggesting that 'Sindoor' was closely associated with a specific religion and that a more neutral name would have been preferable. He added that while the name may not be very important, what truly matters was that Pakistan had been taught a lesson through this military action.

Paul, however, vehemently disagreed with Raj's comments, calling him a "fool" and an "ignorant person." She pointed out that the operation's name was a powerful symbol, particularly in the context of the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians on April 22. The attack, she said, was a direct reminder of the need for a strong response, and 'Operation Sindoor' was the perfect answer to such heinous acts.
“The operation is not just a name, it is a tribute to the victims of the Pahalgam attack. This is not the weak India of the past, but a strong, resolute India under Prime Minister Modi's leadership,” Paul stated.
The BJP leader also emphasized that the critics of the operation were the same individuals who had allowed India to remain weak during the Congress regime, citing the failure to take meaningful action after terror attacks like 26/11.
The name 'Sindoor', which traditionally symbolizes marriage and is worn by Hindu women, was seen as a symbolic gesture honoring the victims' wives who lost their husbands during the attack. The massacre in Pahalgam targeted 25 Hindu men, many of whom were newly married and on holiday with their wives when they were killed in front of their families.
Paul clarified that the use of 'Sindoor' in the operation's name was not an arbitrary choice, but a deliberate, symbolic tribute to the families of the victims and a mark of India's strong resolve against terrorism.
