Mangaluru, Sep 8: The city police conducted a surprise raid at the Mangaluru district jail following credible information that prisoners in judicial custody were using prohibited mobile phones.
Based on the information, a case was registered at Barke police station on September 8, 2026, under Crime No. 82/2026, Section 323 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 42 of the Karnataka Prisons Act.
As part of the investigation, police conducted an unexpected raid at the Mangaluru District Jail and carried out searches at various locations. During the search, 10 mobile smartphones were recovered from nine inmates lodged in A-Block. The inmates were identified as Rifath Ali, Ibrahim Khalil, Ashfaq alias Juttu Ashfaq, Arshad, Dawood Parvez, Nazrath Ali, Shifan, Abdul Sadiq and Arfaj.

The first four inmates are accused in the recent Arif murder case reported near Thokkottu. Inmates Nos. 5 to 8 are accused in NDPS drug-peddling cases, while inmate No. 9 is an accused in a KCOCA case registered at Kankanady Town police station.
Barke police are continuing the investigation into the use and supply of the recovered mobile phones. Other information related to the case is also being examined.
