Mangaluru: Zulekha Yenepoya Preventive Oncology Clinic, colposcope unit inaugurated

Mangaluru, Mar 11: Preventive Oncology Clinic and Colposcope unit that is built at the cancer hospital with the joint participation of Zulekha Yenepoya Institute of Oncology, Deralakatte and Tata Trust was inaugurated by Javed Akhtar, IAS, additional chief secretary of Karnataka state government forest and environment department on Friday.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Mariyam Anjum Iftikar, gynaecology oncology laparoscopic and robotic surgeon of Zulekha Yenepoya Institute of Oncology said, “More stress is given in the hospital to prevent mouth, breast and cervical cancers. The hospital has the best Mammogram facility to prevent and detect breast cancer. For Cervical cancer HPV test and HPV vaccinations are given. Two doses are given for those between the age group of nine to 15 and three doses for those above the age of 15 in 0, first and six months.

“It is possible to cure cervical cancer if it is detected early. Number of breast cancer patients are increasing in India as well as around the globe. More than 1.2 lac cases are detected. One woman is dying every seven minute due to cervical cancer. In the wake of this, the organization has the motto of creating more awareness on cancer, testing, detection in early stage and curing of the same.

“Now new colposcopy technology is inaugurated by the additional chief secretary. This will help in detecting the cervixes in private parts of the body and treating them. This machine which is of German technology enables 3D x-ray printing of the cancer. This treatment that costs Rs 15 lac throughout the country will be done at reduced cost in the hospital.

“Yenepoya hospital has organized various schemes under the caption ‘Healthy Woman’. Efforts over health check-up of rural women, mobile bus clinics and making women living in tribal areas more healthy is continuously done by the hospital,” she said.

Dr B H Sripathi Rao, Dr Gangadhar Somayaji, Dr Prakash Saldanha, Dr Moosabba, Abdul Mohsin, Dr Jalaluddin Akbar, Dr Boney Paul, Ramachandra Shetty, Dr Ashwini, Dr Poonam, Dr Shruthi, Dr Rachana, Dr Lancy and Sabita were present.
