Mangaluru, Sep 21: The 13-month journey of Natanam, a pioneering classical dance reality show jointly presented by Sri Devi Nrityaradhana Kala Kendra (R), Puttur, and Daijiworld 24x7, concluded on a high note with a grand finale held at Don Bosco Hall in the city.
Aimed at offering a dedicated platform for classical dancers and introducing traditional Indian dance forms to television audiences, the reality show saw over 60 artists compete in the initial audition rounds. Following rigorous competitive stages, seven finalists earned spots in the grand finale.
Pannaga G Rao emerged victorious, taking home a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and the winner’s trophy, while Srikari of Hosabettu secured the runner-up position, winning Rs 25,000. Nidhi P Sharma and Dhanyashree shared the third place, receiving Rs 15,000 each.
The remaining finalists—Sanjana J Suvarna, Prakruthi P Maroor, and Sumalatha—were awarded consolation prizes of Rs 10,000 each, along with a silver idol of Lord Nataraja.
The grand finale was inaugurated by Shantala award-winning natya acharya Ullal Mohan Kumar, who graced the occasion and extended his best wishes to the young performers stepping onto the broader artistic stage.
Addressing the gathering, Daijiworld founder Walter Nandalike commended all the finalists and contestants for their sustained commitment throughout the 13-month production. Drawing a parallel to swimmer Michael Phelps’ historic performance at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, he highlighted the importance of matching opportunity with relentless preparation. He emphasised that while opportunity opens doors, consistent hard work, discipline, and authenticity ultimately determine long-term success. He also lauded the parents and gurus for their unwavering encouragement and support.
Karnataka Sangeetha Nritya Academy president Vidushi Shubha Dhananjay congratulated the participants, observing that the scale and production quality of Natanam gave it the feel of a world stage. Reflecting on her early days in the 1980s—when classical dance struggled for corporate backing and prime platforms—she appreciated Daijiworld and its sponsors for investing in traditional art without compromising its cultural integrity.
Expressing her gratitude, Vidushi Rohini Uday stated that when they had approached Daijiworld with a proposal a year ago, the management immediately stepped forward with enthusiasm. She noted that the dream had become a reality by successfully bringing Bharatanatyam to the mainstream television screen. She added that the channel was unconcerned with chasing TRP ratings, and its sole motivation was a genuine appreciation for classical Indian art. She extended her heartfelt thanks to the gurus who sent their disciples, and to the parents for their steadfast trust.
The event drew an enthusiastic crowd of artists, gurus, families, and art patrons, turning the finale into a vibrant celebration of classical heritage and emerging talent.
Also present were Daijiworld operations director Melvyn Rodrigues, marketing director Alexis Castelino, HR director Ronald Nazareth, and marketing manager Praveen Tauro.
Stany Bela, production director, delivered the welcome address, while Vishesh Kalladka served as the programme director. Shwetha Arehole hosted the dance competition, and Manasa Madivala anchored the formal stage ceremony.
