Udupi: Three fans of boats worth Rs 4 lac stolen, act caught on CCTV

Udupi, Mar 1: Three fans of boats which had been anchored in garages for repairs were found stolen for which video footage has been captured on a CCTV camera.

On Sunday night, three fans in total and a fan each from the respective boats were found stolen separately in the Malpe boat garages.

The CCTV footage showed four youths involved in the act. The youths stole three fans along with the shafts and transported them in a tempo before fleeing from the scene.

The three fans are together valued at about Rs 4 lac.

It is learnt that the fans which were found in the front portion of the garage were targeted and planned to be stolen. Boat owner Ganesh Suvarna said since most of the shops and commercial establishments downed their shutters early being a Sunday, it became easier for the thieves to strike the garages.

Fishermen have complained of a rise in the number of theft cases at the fisheries port in recent times. Fishermen have also expressed unhappiness over the inability of the police to nab any perpetrators of such acts.
