Mangaluru: Chickenpox rises among children in DK due to changing weather

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Feb 27: With rising temperatures, chickenpox cases are increasing among both children and adults in Dakshina Kannada district. Failure to maintain hygiene can exacerbate the severity of the disease.

There is currently no specific vaccine for chickenpox. Senior officials from the health department have noted that cases are usually seen from January to May.

Chickenpox primarily affects children, and maintaining hygiene is crucial to preventing its spread. Infected children should be kept at home as the disease can spread quickly.

Sudhakar, the DDPI of public instruction, reported that only a few cases have been detected in some schools. School authorities have been instructed to ask infected students to stay home.

Chickenpox spreads through Varicella and Joster viruses via breathing, contaminated food or water, and airborne particles. Boils develop on the face and body for around five to six days, with fever, cold, and headache accompanying the disease. Boils are primarily seen on the face, stomach, and back.

It is important to maintain good skin hygiene, follow proper care guidelines, and consult with a doctor. Antiseptic measures must be taken, and boils should not be touched to avoid scarring.

Once a person has had chickenpox, they develop antibodies against the disease. However, if they contract it a second time, consulting a doctor is recommended. On the third day, the eyes may also turn red due to chickenpox, according to health department officials.

There is vaccine for chicken pox but it used to cost 1500/- a few years back which I had given to my son. But I won't advice it now as he had some allergic skin boils every month for few years requiring antibiotics. I had observed some lymph node swelling in the back of neck. As my 12 years research about all vaccines suggest not satisfactory results I want all to have informed choice. A I personally have kept away from any jabs since 5 years and living healthy life with all my family members by getting daily exposure to all viruses and bacteria helping body update it's immune system. Live healthy, eat healthy and live better life.

True; it's always better to develop innate immunity than to suppress it with a jab! I remember in olden days, patients used to take simple food like rice gruel and keep oneself isolated for ten days by which time the scabs would fall off; after that a bath in boiled water with a bunch of neem leaves; after that a sumptuous non veg meal! If I am not mistaken, it was called as 'Devi' in Maharashtra!!

It's a self limiting viral disease, seldom turns serious; good nutrition/hydration, cleanliness and hydration will see it through!! BTW, post cure, the virus remains latent in the spinal nerve roots and later on in life manifests itself as shingles (herpes zoster) whenever the immunity becomes low!

It was coriander seeds soaked in water for eye irritation and neem leaves boiled in water for the bath after ten days!
