Mangaluru, Dec 8: As much as 75,400 metric tons of sand imported from Malaysia a few years ago found lying at NMPA for distribution will be sold to local buyers in the district within the next four or five days, said deputy commissioner Ravikumar M R.

Speaking at a new conference, he said that he was surprised to know that such a huge quantity of sand was stored at NMPA, four days ago. “Though it is not M Sand, it is equivalent to it in quality,” he said.

“The sand will be sold at the rate of Rs 10,000 per ten tons in the district. Besides that 1,000 metric tons of sand confiscated from various places in the district is available. That sand will be sold at the rate of Rs 7,000 per load,” he said.

“Suitable CC Cameras will be installed at NMPA site and the sand will be sold through lorries approved by the RTO. The details of the sand sold will be provided to the public through the department of geology, district administration, police commissioner, SP and media,” he said.

“The selection of eligible contractors in CRZ and non CRZ zones is finalized. Few more processes are in progress. The final orders will be released soon,” he added.

Jossy Tauro Sir, Have you heard about soil erosion ? People who are living near the river or sea will get flooded if we remove sand from our sea shore. So we have to import.
