    Bhandarkar msmmu,

Why I celebrate July 23rd- 1st August as Tilak Saptha:

Bal Gangadhar Tilak or Lokmanya Tilak, as he was popularly known , was born 23 July 1856 and died 1st August 1920. His original name was Keshav Gangadhar Tilak.
Tilak was one of the first and strongest advocates of Swaraj and a true blue nationalist. He is known for his quote in Marathi: ", “स्वराज्य हा माझा जन्मसिद्ध हक्क आहे आणि तो मी मिळवणारच” - “Swarajya is my birthright and I shall have it!".

Tilak the ‘MahaGuru’ of Indian Independence Movement:

Though ideologically very different, Tilak had influenced Gopal Krishna Gokhale in many ways, apart from the fact that, Tilak and Gokhale's early careers paralleled, both were Chitpavan Brahmin, both attended Elphinstone College, both became mathematics professors and both were important members of the Deccan Education Society. Both Gokhale and Tilak were the front-ranking political leaders in the early 20th century. Now, Gopal Krishna Gokhale had tremendous influence on Mahatma Gandhi. So, in a way, even though ideologically very different Tilak did have a role to play in Gandhi’s life.

These selfless leaders with diverse ideologies, beliefs, values worked together to help build “Modern India”. These were the few good men and women who genuinely worshiped mother India and cared for her more than their very own dear lives.
