SpiceJet apathy - Dubai-Mangaluru flight delayed by 24 hours, cancelled finally

Daijiworld Media Network - Dubai (MS)

Dubai, Dec 12: As many as 177 passengers, who were supposed to fly by SpiceJet flight SG 60 from Dubai to Mangaluru at 12.50 pm of Wednesday, had a horrid time as their flight was continuously deferred by the SpiceJet authorities and finally cancelled the flight after 24 hours of keeping the passengers on hook.

The authorities of SpiceJet did not inform the passengers clearly about the reason for delay. Initially operational issues were cited as the reason for the delay but at the end when the flight was cancelled, it said that the flight is cancelled due to technical fault in the tire of the flight.

To increase the agony of the passengers, there was no senior SpiceJet representative at the airport to answer and pacify the anxious passengers. The passengers were not provided taxi fare to go back to their homes and were also not provided hotel accommodation saying that it is a 'Budget Airline'.

Food and refreshment was provided only once in 24 hours delay. That too the families, including children and elderly people, were asked to walk two floors up to have a Macdonald's meal.

In total eight mails were sent to the passengers after two or three hours and in each mail the time of the flight was kept on deferring. However, at the end the flight itself was cancelled.

After the cancellation of the flight, the passengers were not offered the alternate flight but were asked to collect refund and book alternative flights through detour. However, the direct flights to Mangaluru are available only after two days. This has caused the loss of money, in addition to loss of annual leave and mental agony to the passengers who had booked their ticket on this flight.

This is not the first time that SpiceJet has shown apathy towards its fliers. In the past also several issues were raised against this airlines.

I am a regular traveller to Mangalore from Kuwait. I had booked Spice Jet from Mangalore to Mumbai 9.30 pm flight so I could reach Mumbai in time to take the next flight which was at 4 AM, just before taking the taxi to the airport I called to inquire on something, that's when they informed me that the flight has been delayed by an hour for operational reason, after some time I receive 4 SMSes one after the other saying the flight is delayed finally the flight landed into Mangalore at 12.30 am when I requested the spice jet staff to help me get my luggage on priority (as the flight was scheduled to land at Santacruz airport) the counter staff blindly refused she said I can not do anything, talk to the Manager. The staff is very arrogant and refuses to give a positive reply. Since then I never travel by Spice Jet. I learnt a lesson that even if I have to pay more and travel I will book with other airlines but not spice jet for any reason.

It's not only Spice jet. All other Airlines in and out of Mangalore to Dubai are disrupted for one reason or the other repeatedly. Are these Airlines plan to close down Mangalore Airport. Mangalore Airport officials need to think about their strategy to keep the Airport operational and not rely on un-predictable airlines for their services.

In my last 6 months travels only 1 spice jet flight travelled on time. Rest most of the flights delayed for 4 to 5 hrs or cancelled. Worst airline operating in India right now.

Seasonal air fare of these law cost airlines are much higher than the business class fare of Standard Flights. There is no control on the airfares. Government is getting tax. Only problem is for the ordinary citizen of the country.
Low makers gets pension. Looters get all the benefits.

This is the not first time that spice jet flight gets cancelled/delayed.
Most of passengers have to travel from Uttar Kannada regions and when flights gets delayed they have to go back incurring in huge travel expense. SpiceJet Staffs does not respond to Expenses call as they cite simply reason claiming that its budget airways and they cannot entertain expenses.

We need to raise awareness for this misconduct and avoid spicejet for future travels until they start respecting customers.

I believe the honourable aviation minister recently made a statement that passengers are entitled to 400 percent of their ticket fare for delays beyond 24 hours. I think all passengers should approach DGCA or concerned authorities for justice and stake claim to their deserved entitlement.

Don't let these airlines go scout free. Many passengers do not claim these fines from airlines...

This is a joke. It is unbelievable that SpiceJet flight from Dubai-Mangalore was delayed by 24 hours. Do the management of SpiceJet understand the ordeal the passengers especially aged, woman, and children went through. What a lousy reason to inform that it was a budget airline and hence could not afford the urgent needs of the passengers at this time and with no fault of the passengers.

In India everything take lightly, nothing going to happen big for any blunders.
24 Hours delay, one has to understand how is the situation in case of emergency some one has to travel.
