12 party MLAs show signs of quitting BJP in Maharashtra

Mumbai, Dec 7: After the intense Maha political showdown, there might be more trouble brewing for the BJP in the state. As per sources, with growing internal dissent at least 12 party MLAs are on the verge of quitting the party.

Earlier, former minister and senior BJP leader Pankaja Munde hinted that she may leave the party. Interestingly, before the elections, several leaders from NCP and Congress had quit, to join the BJP.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena and NCP have admitted to being in touch with several leaders from BJP after the formation of the new 'Maha Vikas Aghadi' government.

Reportedly, the ones who expressed interest in quitting BJP and contesting under Maha Vikas Aghadi included three MLAs from Marathwada, five from Western Maharashtra and four other MLAs.

However, the party leadership has not taken any decision on taking them in.

Besides, BJP leader Ashish Shelar has denied reports and termed them as baseless rumours. He claimed that the MLAs of Maha Vikas Aghadi were just 'planting stories'.

Further, Shelar asserted that the recent MLAs who have joined the party are adhering to the party code and heartily support former CM Devendra Fadnavis.

Unfortunately for the BJP, Pankaja Munde has hinted that all was not well in the state unit. Fueling the speculations, she went ahead and even removed BJP reference from her official Twitter handle.

Recently, another senior leader Eknath Khadse blamed certain BJP leaders including Fadnavis for the defeat his daughter Rohini and Munde faced in the elections.

Khadse said a person cannot be selective while taking credit for the BJP's victory and shrugging off responsibilities after losing. He also demanded action against the leaders responsible for the BJP's shrunken tally of 105 seats, down from 122 in 2014.

Khadse, Chandrashekhar Bavankule, Vinod Tawde, Prakash Mehta were among those leaders who were denied tickets.
