Mangaluru: Protecting journalism between pressures is a challenge – Mohan Alva

Mangaluru, Nov 19: “Media protects values in modern living in between pressures of profession. It is a challenge for journalist,” said Alva’s Education Trust president Dr M Mohan Alva.

He was speaking after inaugurating national newspaper day programme held by Dakshina Kannada district working journalists association at Mangaluru press club on Monday, November 18.



“There was wide growth of media during the last one hundred years. Control of media in the current age in between competition of investment is difficult. Besides that scarcity of knowledge regarding writing among youth who enter media in the force of enthusiasm is normal. It is necessary to proceed with utmost care. But there is no need of thoughts of debt. As time decides everything, media should not compromise in the system and protect values,” he said.

Indian Working Journalists’ Federation New Delhi president B V Mallikarjunaiah speaking after receiving felicitation from the association said that the country cannot be imagined without journalism. “Journalist should have commitment and determination in the work. It is the essence of journalism. The country will have no clan if journalism loses its way,” he said.

Author, Hampi University retired chancellor Dr B A Vivek Rai, press club president Annu Mangaluru and association chief secretary Ibrahim Adkastala were on the dais.

Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists’ Association president Srinivas Nayak Indaje welcomed. Executive committee member Vijay Kotian Padu compered the programme. R C Bhat rendered the vote of thanks.
