Moodbidri, Aug 1: A 25-year-old man allegedly died by suicide after making a video call to his sister at Naanil in Beluvai gram panchayat limits of Moodbidri taluk on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Syed Anwar (25), son of Abusali Ismail, a native of Kajoor in Belthangady taluk.

According to police sources, Anwar had been living in a rented house at Beluvai with his wife and their two-year-old son. It is learnt that the couple had frequent disputes, and a complaint had reportedly been lodged with the police earlier in connection with their differences.

Anwar, who worked as a driver of a fish transport vehicle, had been unemployed for some time and was staying at home. He had reportedly returned from Bengaluru a couple of days before the incident.

Police said another argument allegedly took place between the couple on Thursday, following which his wife left for her parental home with their child.

Before the incident, Anwar is said to have made a video call to his sister and told her that he was distressed over alleged harassment from his wife's family and intended to end his life. Alarmed by the call, family members rushed to the rented house, where they found him unresponsive.

Moodbidri police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
