Mangaluru, Nov 8: Emphasising the message of love, unity and communal harmony, the ‘Deepavali Jyothi Parva’ celebration organised by the Inayath Ali Abhimani Balaga, Kavoor, brought people from different communities together at Ambedkar Maidan, Kavoor, on Saturday evening.

The programme, held under the guidance and presence of KPCC general secretary Inayath Ali, celebrated the spirit of Deepavali through a series of religious, social and cultural activities, highlighting the importance of humanity and brotherhood beyond caste and religious boundaries.

The celebrations began with a traditional cow worship ceremony. As a gesture of communal harmony, Inayath Ali donated cows to Hindu, Muslim and Christian families. He also extended financial assistance to several economically disadvantaged families, adding a humanitarian dimension to the festival.

A major highlight of the event was the felicitation of individuals and organisations for their contributions to society. District Rajyotsava Award recipients, Anganwadi and ASHA workers, and office-bearers of various organisations were honoured in recognition of their dedicated service. They were presented with shawls, traditional turbans, mementoes and silver coins.

The cultural programme added colour to the celebrations, with popular playback singer Naveen Sajju captivating the audience through his musical performance. The devotional renditions by Sri Shivashakthi Bhajana Vrinda and dance performances by various cultural troupes also entertained the gathering.

Children were distributed crackers, while a creative lantern-making competition and an impressive fireworks display added to the festive atmosphere.

Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee president Padmaraj R Poojary, Congress leaders Mamatha Gatti, Purushothama Chitrapura, B L P Padmanabha Kotian, R K Prithviraj, Lakshmisha Gabaladka, M G Hegde, Gangadhara Hosabettu, Jayasheela Adyanthaya, Surendra Kambli, Rupesh Rai, Krishna Amin and U P Ibrahim, along with local party workers and a large number of Inayath Ali's supporters, participated in the programme.

The celebration stood as a meaningful reminder that festivals are not merely occasions for rituals and festivities but also opportunities to strengthen social bonds, promote mutual respect and spread the message of communal harmony.
