St Aloysius College Higher Primary School celebrates feast of St Ignatius of Loyola

Mangaluru, Aug 1: St Aloysius College Higher Primary School celebrated the feast of its Founder Saint, St Ignatius of Loyola, on July 31 with deep devotion, gratitude and enthusiasm.

The celebrations began with a solemn eucharistic celebration held at the St Aloysius Chapel on July 30. The Holy Mass was celebrated by Fr Joyson Vas, SJ, and was attended by the Catholic students and staff of the school.

On July 31 the students gathered in the school auditorium for a vibrant cultural programme organized by the fifth-grade students.

The chief guest for the occasion was Nilisha Angelin D'Souza, a proud alumna of the institution, an audiologist and a speech-language pathologist. She holds a master's degree in audiology and is currently pursuing her PhD in audiology at KMC, Manipal Academy of Higher Education. She is also a professional master of ceremonies and event host, besides serving as a member of the executive committee of the St Aloysius Higher Primary School Alumni Association.

The programme commenced with a prayer song invoking God's blessings on the gathering, followed by a warm welcome to the dignitaries and guests presented by Gourav Shenoy. Ashwini and Jaipreet beautifully explained the significance of the day by highlighting the inspiring life and legacy of St Ignatius of Loyola. The students then presented a melodious Feast Day greeting song. A highlight of the event was a skit portraying the life of St Ignatius of Loyola, depicting his conversion from a life focused on worldly pleasures to one of deep faith and service.

Addressing the gathering, Nilisha Angelin D'Souza encouraged the students to imbibe the Ignatian values of faith, discipline, compassion and service. She shared how these values shape young minds and urged everyone to always respect and remain grateful to their teachers.

Competitions were conducted to mark the feast. The winners, along with achievers in the rising stars spell bee, maestro handwriting, arithmetic genius, interschool table tennis championship, karate and swimming, were felicitated by the chief guest alongside headmistress Jositta Noronha, PTA vice president Lavina Veigas, assistant headmaster Liya D'Souza.

The students enthralled the audience with a lively and graceful dance performance, adding color and energy to the event.

The programme was efficiently compered by Elroy Noronha, Afsana Mulla and Sandra Lobo. The vote of thanks was proposed by Shravan Kumar, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the event.

The celebration concluded on a fitting note with the singing of the institutional anthem.
