Mangaluru: St Aloysius ITI conducts apprenticeship awareness programme

Mangaluru, Oct 15: An apprenticeship awareness programme was conducted for the benefit of the students on October 15 at St Aloysius ITI auditorium.

The programme commenced with a prayer song by Sewing Technology students. Later, Roshan D’Souza, principal welcomed the resource person Giridhar Salian- Principal, Govt ITI, Kadri hills, here.

Fr Cyril D’Mello SJ- Director and Alwyn Menezes- Vice-prinicipal were present on the dais.

Fr Cyril D’Mello addressing the gathering said that the programme would be useful and students should make use of the opportunity for a better future.



Giridhar Salian, the resource person spoke about the benefits of the apprenticeship scheme.

Detailing on the benefits of the apprenticeship scheme he said, "After the one or two year ITI course which the industrial training institutes provide, the certificate which the students get is the NTC (National Trade Certificate) which has value in industries. These ITI passouts are considered as semi-skilled technicians. To become fully skilled technicians, the students should join any industry as apprentices where they will gain experience by working in actual industrial environment. They will also be given a monthly stipend.

"According to the Apprenticeship Act 1961, any industry which has minimum six workers, should compulsorily take apprentices for training. The industries need skilled workers, hence industries provide on the job training called apprenticeship. Here the trainees learn the skill. At the end of the training, examinations will be conducted in theory and practical subjects, where the theory is an online exam and the practical will be conducted in the industry itself. After the successful completion of the apprenticeship training, NAC (National Apprenticeship Certificate) will be provided.

"A trainee with NTC and NAC certificates is considered equivalent to a diploma holder."

He explained the procedures of registration for apprenticeship in www.apprenticeshipindia.org.

He also said that these programmes are for the benefit of the students, by making the right decisions and possessing a good attitude, one can reach higher altitudes.
