Five booked in illegal cockfight raid in Beltangady; four roosters seized

Beltangady, Mar 14: Police raided an illegal cockfighting event at Shettikodi in Karaya village of Beltangady taluk and booked five persons while seizing four roosters used for the fight.

Those booked in the case have been identified as Ankith of Mugera House in Kodambettu village, Yashodhara of Urudayi, Shivappa of Mugera House, Karunakara Poojary of Mundi House in Tanneerupantha village, and Umesh of Madakkil House in Machina village.

During the raid, police seized four roosters used for cockfighting, Rs 2,500 in cash allegedly used for gambling, two cockfight blades, and an autorickshaw from the spot.

The raid was conducted on March 13 at an open ground in Shettikodi where the cockfight was reportedly being organised. The operation was led by probationary IPS officer Ananya Srivastava from Uppinangady police station.

Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
