Mangaluru, Jun 12: Under the state government's loan waiver scheme, a sum of Rs 453.95 crore is yet to be released for 55,936 eligible beneficiaries of the scheme from Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts. At the same time, 35,920 farmers from here have got credit of Rs 251.15 crore to their accounts from the state government under the said scheme.

Under the flagship loan waiver scheme of the government, loans of eligible farmers up to one lac rupees were to be waived. 67,624 farmers from Dakshina Kannada and 24,232 farmers from Udupi district were to receive a total of Rs 705.1 crore towards loan waiver. As per government sources, the remaining amount would be released within the next two months.

A sum of Rs 206,79 crore had been released to these two districts before the election code of conduct came into force. After the code of conduct ceased to be enforced, further amount of Rs 44.36 crore was released. The farmers, to be able to derive benefit of the scheme, have to clear the balance in their loan account that is over and above one lac rupees. If the liability is over one lac rupees, the benefit of the scheme does not accrue to the respective farmers.

The loan waiver scheme is in force till July 10. Deputy registrar of cooperative societies of Dakshina Kannada district Dr Suresh Gowda, has clarified that the farmers would be able to get benefit of the loan waiver scheme only if they clear the liability in the loan account that is over and above one lac rupees.
