Mangaluru, Feb 9: As the summer is round the corner, the citizens of the city are affected with viral fever. Many are down with fever, headache, cold and cough. This is because the weather is changing.

It is relatively cool in the early mornings in the city nowadays but the mercury raises as the sun comes up. The body finds it difficult to cope with the sudden changes in the temperatures. In addition, the virus that causes the fever breeds during this variation of temperature. That is why more and more people are affected with fever and related symptoms.

According to the doctors this is viral fever and it generally occurs during this time of the year. There is no need to panic. However, if the fever does not subside even after taking medicine, people are advised to get their blood tested.

Dr Naveen, medical officer of Mangaluru taluk says, "As it is cool in the mornings, the virus which causes ordinary fever breeds during this time. This causes fever, cold and headache. There is no need to panic as this is general flu. If Paracetamol is taken for three days it will subside. If not, people should approach a physician."

It is possible to ward off the fever by drinking hot water. Drink only boiled and cooled water in lukewarm condition. It is better to use hot water for bath also. It is advisable not to have head bath till the fever subsides as the pouring of water on the head may cause increase in headache due to the aggravated cold in the sinus. Proper food should be taken. If not weakness may set in once the fever subsides. Coffee and tea should be taken in moderation during fever.

There is nothing much to worry about this viral fever as it all depends from person to person. But PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE. Take doctor's advice if you have similar symptoms as I also worked in New York and patients should not avoid when they have abnormal conditions in their body.
