Kundapur: Shankar Poojary arrested not for banned drug, but for large quantity

Daijiworld Media Network - Kundapur (SP)

Kundapur, Jan 18: It is said that Shankar Poojary from Margoli Kalanje, Basrur in the taluk, who had been arrested in Kuwait seven months ago, was caught not because of the banned substance in the tablets carried by him, but because of excessive quantity. He has been found innocent and hence released from jail.

Shankar's release was secured with the efforts of his wife, Jyothi, Kuwait-based entrepreneur, Pushparaj, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike district president, Mohammed Ansar, Udupi district administration, Human Rights Protection Foundation, and Billawa Sangha.

When Shankar was returning after a two-month stay at his native place in June last year, at the request of his colleague, he had taken with him a parcel containing pain killer tabletls handed to him by a person from Udupi for being handed over to a person at Kuwait. Jyothi said that her husband ha not taken tablets containing banned substance, but the police found him to be in possession of over 600 tablets although the doctor's prescription was for only 30 tablets.

Pushparaj from Moodbidri who runs business in Kuwait, who read the news about Shankar in the media, contacted his brother at Moodbidri and pledged help to secure release of Shankar. He also arranged for advocate on behalf of Shankar at Kuwait.

The couple, who lived in a thatched hut, had dreamt of building a house. However, the construction of the house was stalled after it was started as Shankar was arrested. Jyothi had a hard time managing her and her two children without any income for seven months. Jyothi says that she got information from Pushparaj that her husband would be released in two days after completing prison formalities. She said it is left to her husband to either live here or return to Kuwait. She insisted that her husband was innocent and was not at fault.

Sanjay..don't talk like a person with yellow fever. Here Jossey did not mention any specific religion. He just told even if the person giving parcel is from your community please don't trust him. To make it simple his message to hindus is don't accept parcel even if he gets from a fellow hindu, his message to christian is don't take parcel even if he gets from a christian. Hope you understand simple English or you are a communal.

Sanjay...number of "disagrees" to your comments tells about your character. No more comments as you are the one always used to bring religion into everything. I have read all your comments earlier. Hence I compared you to a person having yellow fever as for yellow fever guy everything looks yellow and for communal guy everyone looks like communal.

You are right Jossey , as Buddha said “Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.”
