Kuwait: Shankar Poojary, jailed for carrying banned drug, released

Daijiworld Media Network - Kuwait

Kuwait, Jan 15: Shankar Poojary from Basrur from Udupi district, who was jailed in Kuwait for carrying banned drug last May, has been released, as per sources.

Shankar was working for a Kuwaiti company. He had visited his hometown last year for ten days. When he was returning to Kuwait, at the request of one of his colleagues, he had agreed to carry a parcel handed over to him by a person from Udupi. The person had requested to deliver the parcel to the mother-in-law of the sender, who he claimed, had been working there.

Once Poojary landed in Kuwait, the officials found a parcel containing tablets in his possession. During his questioning, he told them that he had brought it for being delivered to a woman working in that country. But his colleague who was instrumental in sending the parcel through him told the police that he had nothing to do with the parcel. And Shankar Poojary was detained and spent the days till he was released.

His wife Jyothi said in Basrur that she received  a phone call from a businessman named Pushparaj from Kuwait regarding the release. She thanked all individuals and associations who helped in securing the release.

It is not known when Shankar will fly to India. He has valid visa till February 4.

More details are awaited.

Praise the Lord. Now Shankar need lots of time to come to term and attain good health. May the Lord bless him and his family.

My request to all, please do not carry anything from anybody. Each one is leaving the family for their betterment and lands in a far away country to work. It is the necessity to follow the rules and regulations. Anyone who trying to plead to carry anything, if its so urgent, let them get a visa and carry the medicines etc. This will save the people and investigating agencies to handle the case directly.

    God bless Shankar. Take care.

By the grace of God and the effort by foreign department , Shankar was released. It is not new to gulf police department that lot of innocent, ignorant people carry these parcels containing banned medicines. On humanity ground, they should catch the real culprit by trapping them, instead of innocent carrier get punished.

Never take any packed items for someone else. Always be cautious and ask all documents. Open the package to verifies its contents. Finally, ask evidence like a letter+passport copy+contact phone numbers.
My humble request to airport authorities put a signboard in all exit and entry places, "Please do not bring any packed items with you for others. If you take it you will end up in jail".
