Congress veteran Margaret Alva attacks Sonia Gandhi

New Delhi, Jul 16 (India Today) : Congress veteran Margaret Alva today accused her boss Sonia Gandhi of running the party "arbitrarily" and claimed she was often told by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that he wanted her in his Cabinet, but the Congress president did not allow it.

"The decision making in the Congress is very centralised," Alva told Karan Thapar in India Today TV's show, To The Point. She made a series of damning charges against Sonia and other senior Congress leaders in her interview with Thapar.

Alva was sacked in 2008 because she had raised the issue of Congress tickets being sold in the run-up to the Assembly election in Karnataka. "I paid the price for saying the tickets were being sold," she said, adding that she was reprimanded by Sonia for speaking out before the Karnataka polls.

After the Assembly election in Karnataka in November 2008 - which the Congress lost giving the BJP its first ever government in a southern state - Alva had alleged that seats were open to bidders rather than subject to merit. The Congress denied the claims, forcing Alva to resign from the party.

The two patched up later and Alva went on to become the governors of Rajasthan and Uttarakhand when Manmohan Singh was the prime minister during the UPA regime.

Although the contents of her 2008 resignation letter remained a subject of media speculation for a long time, it is for the first time that Alva has revealed the details of the letter in a new book, 'Courage and Commitment', on her days with the Congress.

The book, Alva says, reveals untold stories about her sacking, Sonia's "arbitrary functioning", Sonia's relations with Narasimha Rao, and even details on VVIP chopper scam accused Christian Michel's father's alleged links with Indira Gandhi's son Sanjay and other senior Congress leaders.

Incidentally, earlier this month Alva was made the member of a Congress panel to help improve the synergy between the party and the government in Karnataka, which the Congress currently rules.

But her problem could be that A.K. is not that powerful as of now.
If A.K. becomes powerful, he is likely to become more dominant also.

Mrs. Sonia did right thing by stopping Margret Alva. Mr. Rajiv Gandhi, after assuming power, was more neutral with foreign policy, whereas his mother Mrs. Indira Gandhi was totally aligned towards Soviet Union. All the extra efforts of Mrs. Margret Alva and many Congress leaders to follow Mrs. Indira Gandhi's foreign policy was quietly brushed aside by Mr. Rajiv Gandhi. Recall that about 6-7 years ago Mrs. Alva was ed by Sonia Gandhi to represent Fidel Castro's birthday party in Havana, Cuba as she belongs to that generation. Obviously Mrs. Alva is out of luck with Sonia team. Of course knowing Mrs. Alva's international leftist affiliations, well respected Sardarji might have just bluffed with her!!!

You cannot write a book overnight my friend. It is not like you making Idli sambar at home. It may have taken her 5-7 years atleast.

Let us read her book and then comment. Insulting / derogatory words are uncalled for because neither myself nor yourself have met Mrs Alva personally. Let us respect one and all.Let us be proud of Mrs Alva because she is a Mangalorean and a South Kanarite.

Margaret Alva does not know dirty politics and does not believe in it..Her performance as a Congress worker and leader say everything. She is very clean politician and respected by all..Naturally,she did not like Italian Lady's dirty and dangerous politics. She protested and paid price for it..We can get thousands of Italian lady type politicians in India..but very difficult to get clean politician like Margaret Alva..Recently,Former Minister,S.M.Krishna asked all people to join hands with Modiji to strengthen India. Only Clean Politician speak like that..Now,Margaret Alwa's turn to attack Italian lady's Hitler rule in Congress party..End is nearing for Mother and son in Indian Politics..Better,appoint Margaret Alva or Krishna as Congress PRESIDENT to save Indiraji's Congress Party..Happy that both clean Politicians are from Karnataka..

Strange argument. Are you telling that governor's post is dirty and clean persons should not accept that?
Perhaps she is looking to be appointed as governor again by BJP. Hence this sudden (but true) confession.

Sonia Gandhi is a gem of a person.. who does not know about the scams when she was head of congress during UPA regime..

She even cried for terrorists on a humanitarian ground..

Italy should produce such great leaders and supply to rest of the countries..

All the congress people should come up with their view points. It seems congress is being filled by chamchas and those who reveal the truth are shown the door. The way Sonia Gandhi treated P.V. Narasimharao is not acceptable. PVN is architect of modern India along with his great finance minister Dr. Manmohan Singh who saved India from bankruptcy. Can't imagine India without PVN and MMS. When MMS was chosen as PM, he was not allowed to function and this was major setback for India. If he was allowed free hand, then India would have been on top of the world. Sonia Gandhi chamchas should be kicked out of congress and then only it will survive in India..

Why Attack now? is it because they are not given position now? Everything is ok so long as power is with you, but moment when it is taken away you become fish out of water. Her attack does not make any sense now.
