Puttur, Aug 30: Though the bodies of two young men drowned in the Hosmath tragedy are not yet found, the search operations have now been called off, said sources.

As reported earlier 4 persons had been washed away as they tried to cross the submerged Hosmath bridge on a lorry on Tuesday August 15 afternoon.  While the bodies of driver Manjunath and cleaner Umesh were found after four days, nothing is known about the Sandeep and Suresh, the two young men who too were in the same lorry.

Though there are stories floating round that they might have managed to swim and reach river bank, there is hardly anyone to second these stories.  The water was flowing almost 5 feet above the bridge on that day and the eyewitnesses are of the opinion that even the expert swimmers would have found it difficult to venture into the river.  This was well-supported by some of the local expert swimmers too.  Moreover flood situation had continued for more than a week which makes it clear that it was not easy to swim and reach river bank.

It has now been suspected that their bodies might have either stuck in some bushes or rocks in the river.  Theories that they might have been eaten by fish too are doing circles in the region.  According to some sources there is a particular please in the river near Nadoli where crocodiles are found.  So it is said that the bodies of these young men might have become food to these crocodiles.

However, in between all these happenings, now the fresh news is that search operations which were going on so far to trace Sandeep and Suresh have been called off.  While official operations were called off a long ago, some locals were carrying out search operations at their own interest.  Now that the bodies have not been found or nothing is known about them, these private ventures too have been called off.

Meanwhile, the plight of their families is inexplicable.  Both were the bread winners of their families.  Now that they are not there, their families have been caught in deep trouble.  Their parents, siblings are finding not finding consolation in nothing and no one else.  In the beginning they were hoping that their children may come back.  Now all those hopes have faded.
