Kundapur, Sep 15: The Udupi district police have arrested two individuals from Shikaripura in Shivamogga in connection with a residential burglary under the Amasebailu police station limits and a temple collection box theft under the Shankaranarayana police station limits.

The arrested have been identified as Rakesh H (28) and Nandeesh M (24), both residents of Shikaripura in Shivamogga district. The police apprehended them near Hulikal Ghat and recovered Rs 1,19,720 in stolen cash. The accused were subsequently produced before the court.

The residential theft took place on Sep 4 at a house in Jamboor Jeddu Nelligadde of Machattu village in Kundapur taluk. While the family members were away at work in a factory, the thieves broke the door lock and made away with Rs 97,000 cash kept in a cupboard. A case regarding this was registered at the Amasebailu police station.


In a separate incident, thieves broke open the offering box (hundi) at the Sri Jaladurga Parameshwari temple at Mundukodu in Kullunje village, falling under the Shankaranarayana police station limits, and stole approximately Rs 35,000 to Rs 40,000. A case was registered at the Shankaranarayana police station.

To track down the culprits involved in both cases, a swift operation was carried out under the guidance of Kundapur subdivision DySP H D Kulkarni and the leadership of Kundapur circle inspector Santhosh Kaikani.

The investigation team included Amasebailu police station sub-inspector Bhimashankar Sinnur, investigating sub-inspector Sudharani T, Shankaranarayana police station sub-inspector Younis Gadekar, crime squad assistant sub-inspector Chandrashekar Shetty, and police personnel Raghavendra, Naveen Kumar, Sudhakar, Dinesh, Sachin Kulal, Manjunath, Jayarama Nayak, and Chethan Kumar.
