Govt First Grade College Kavoor celebrates National Librarians’ Day

Mangaluru, Aug 21: Library is the heart of any institution. Library is not only a collection of books, but also the hub of knowledge. The books play an important role in the spreading of knowledge and information. In this context Librarians’ Day was celebrated at Government First Grade College Kavoor, Mangaluru on August 21, which was jointly organised by the department of Library and Information Science & Library Association and IQAC.

Dr Shailarani Bolar, retired senior librarian, Government First Grade College for Women Balmata, Mangaluru, was the chief guest for the programme. In her address she explained the life of Dr S R Ranganathan, the father of Library Science in India. She highlighted his contributions to the systematic growth of libraries and also advised the students to cultivate the habit of visiting the library and read books regularly.

Principal Dr Geetha M L presided over the programme. Dr Therese Pereira, IQAC coordinator and Dr Santhosh Pinto, coordinator student welfare officer and Hemavathi, Librarian were present on the stage.

Sanjana II BBA welcomed the gathering, Rakesh III BCom introduced the guest, Nagashree III BA proposed vote of thanks and Pratheeksha III BCom compered the programme.
