Mangaluru, Aug 21: Dr Edmond Fernandes has been awarded Doctor of Science (DSc) degree by S R University, Warangal, Telangana, India. Defending his work during the viva voce examination before the distinguished expert committee constituted by S R University Warangal, Dr Fernandes demonstrated substantial scholarly contributions, social impact and advanced research and policy work.
The work carried out by Dr Edmond Fernandes has impacted over six million lives across India, besides having published five books, three hundred plus columns and blogs in the national & international media, peer reviewed research crossing over 25 publications and earning global recognition as a US Department of State Alumni, former Atlantic Council senior fellow, Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum Class of 2026 and a former consultant to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for the Asia Pacific region.
Dr Fernandes has established independent academic and policy authority in the space of ending malnutrition within the initiatives pursued with the government of Andhra Pradesh and government of Karnataka enabling a playbook for transforming lives and building sustainable communities, categorically demonstrating translational impact. He has been involved and consistently invited by various government departments including the Ministry of Defence, government of India for training and development initiatives.
His evidence based academic and policy dossier further stems from strategic public health initiatives done in the field of occupational health and safety, health systems strengthening, nutrition, climate and disaster management and geriatric research making his profile materially distinguished and superior on merit as against routine career advancements in academic grades.
With this earned DSc, Dr Edmond Fernandes has achieved an ultimate terminal degree of the highest order. Dr Edmond serves as honorary director, Edward and Cynthia Institute of Public Health, Mangaluru and assistant professor, Department of Public Health at Yenepoya Deemed to be University, Mangaluru.
