Media Release

Karkala, Aug 21: The National Service Scheme (NSS) activities for the current academic year were inaugurated and a training programme was conducted at Christ King Pre-University College, Karkala, at the institution’s auditorium.

Renowned Karkala advocate and Rotary Club Karkala president Rotarian Vijendra Kumar inaugurated the NSS activities by lighting the traditional lamp.

Addressing the gathering, Vijendra Kumar said that NSS provides students with valuable knowledge and experience of social life. “Education alone is not enough to develop an excellent personality. Extracurricular activities such as NSS help shape individuals into responsible and better members of society. We must cultivate the spirit of social service, when we contribute positively to society, society too will wish us well,” he said.

Shankar Kudva, lecturer in the Department of Botany and NSS Officer at Bhuvanendra College, Karkala, who was the chief guest, said that NSS encourages qualities such as courage, service and adventure among students. He added that NSS provides students with an opportunity to engage in social service alongside their academic learning.

Presiding over the programme, Christ King PU College Principal Lakshminarayana Kamath said that leading a disciplined life is everyone’s responsibility. “Bad habits and improper behaviour can ruin our lives. NSS provides a valuable opportunity to overcome such negative influences and channel our attention towards social service. It is an important means of guiding students who may be heading in the wrong direction towards the right path,” he said.

As part of the programme, NSS students presented short skits highlighting the importance of mothers, the significance of yoga and the dangers of drug abuse.

Resource person Shankar Kudva conducted the training programme for the NSS volunteers.

NSS assistant programme officer Sukanya Jain welcomed the gathering, while NSS Programme Officer Deepak compered the programme.

College vice-principal Dr Prakash Bhat and Primary School head master Christopher Kotian were present on the occasion.
